GALLERY: Mamelodi Sundowns survive, Kaizer Chiefs fall by the wayside

Mamelodi Sundowns remain the only 'PSL giant' in contention for the Nedbank Cup after Kaizer Chiefs fell by the wayside at the second round.

Sundowns progressed to the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals following their 2-0 victory over ABC Motsepe League side Vaal University of Technology on Sunday afternoon.

The Brazilains are now the only surviving team out of the 'big three', after Kaizer Chiefs succumbed to a penalty shootout defeat to Highlands Park on Saturday and joined Orlando Pirates through the cup exit door.

With Chiefs and Pirates out of the picture, Pitso Mosimane's men are in line for a spectacular domestic treble, having earlier bagged the Telkom Knockout while remaining in the hunt for the Absa Premiership title this season, though they are also still in contention for the CAF Champions League.

The Tshwane outfit will be eagerly awaiting to learn their Last 8 opponents when the draw takes place on Tuesday evening, pending the outcome of Bidvest Wits' match-up with Chippa United at Bidvest Stadium this evening.

Relive the action from the two big games of the weekend in the gallery above...
