Sirino: Winning with Chiefs 'more special' than with Sundowns

Gaston Sirino has explained why he believes lifting the Nedbank Cup with Kaizer Chiefs will be 'more special' for him than it was when he won it with Mamelodi Sundowns.

For Chiefs, the cup final against rivals Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday presents an opportunity to end a decade-long trophy drought at Naturena.

Sirino, brought in at the start of the season, is no stranger to winning silverware, having collected seven league titles at Sundowns prior to his move to Chiefs.

The Uruguayan, though, insists that winning the Nedbank Cup with his current side, thus ending the drought, will hold a more prominent place in his heart than having won it with the Brazilians three seasons ago.

"Like I said to my wife, it will be different to make history here, it's a different cup. It's a different opportunity for me because, of course, I won the Nedbank Cup already, but this one is special to me," he told journalists at the Amakhosi base on Monday.

"So, I want to fight to make history here, and then we need to prepare for next season to do better."

The last time the side reached the final of the competition was in 2019, losing to then lower division outfit TS Galaxy.

Of course, the road to the podium will not be an easy one, with Sirino and Co. facing an equally motivated Buccaneers that has just beaten them in the league and is going for a third Nedbank Cup on the trot.
