Durban City edge closer to promotion

Durban City continued their push for automatic promotion following a 3-0 victory over JDR Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Sunday.

The Team of Choice made a strong start and went into halftime ahead courtesy of well-travelled and the evergreen Ruzaigh Gamildien.

JDR continued to find the going tough in the second half, but conceded again through Joslin Kamatuka before Tshanini Falakhe added a third moments later.

City ended the weekend three points clear of second-place Orbit College but they have played a game less.

The Durban outfit will also play their game in hand against Milford on Wednesday.

Cape Town Spurs 0-1 University of Pretoria

Cape Town Spurs’ push for survival was dented after going down 1-0 to the University of Pretoria on Friday.

Samuel Julies once again got the visitors over the line when he netted the winner in the opening half.

The loss leaves the Urban Warriors in the bottom-two, while AmaTuks jumped into eighth spot.

Highbury FC 1-1 Venda Football Academy

Venda Football Academy continued their steady rise from the basement through a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Highbury FC.

The men from Limpopo found the opening goal when Tau Rankoko struck the opener late in the first stanza.

With victory in sight for the away side, the host salvaged a point courtesy of Tsepo Cetywayo.

Orbit College 1-0 Baroka FC

Orbit College snatched a fifth successive win in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC on Saturday.

The decisive effort came right after halftime and through a certain Gomolemo Khoto and sent Orbit up to second spot.

For Bakgaga, the defeat ends their six-match unbeaten run as they remain in mid-table.

Casric Stars 2-1 Black Leopards

Black Leopards’ play-off ambitions suffered a huge blow after going down 2-1 to Casric Stars on Saturday.

Casric raced into a two-goal lead with a first-half double from Simon Moukete, while Lidoda Duvha secured a consolation goal through Bethuel Muzeu.

With the loss, Lidoda Duvha gave up third spot to Casric, as the two are tied on points with two matches left to play.

Kruger United 1-0 Leruma United

Kruger United snapped a three-match winless to revive their top-three ambitions following a 1-0 victory over Leruma United.

The home team bounce back and moved in the top-five with Thulani Ndlela finding the winner late in the second stanza.

The worrying times for Leruma continues, as the defeat extended kept them rooted to the bottom of the table.

Upington City 0-1 Milford FC.

Upington City’s winless run of form continued after going down 1-0 to Milford FC on Saturday.

The match was tightly contested particularly in the first half which ended goalless, as the visiting team eagerly chased maximum points.

Milford’s winner came late in the second stanza when Siphosethu Ndlabi found the back of the net.

Pretoria Callies 2-1 Hungry Lions

Pretoria Callies registered a second straight win in a 2-1 victory over Hungry Lions in Atteridgeville.

It was a strong start from both teams, but ultimately the Romans proved too strong for the visitors as goals from Olerato Mandi and Sibongakonke Mgwaba bagged the victory.
