A former Orlando Pirates star has opened on how close he came to fulfilling a dream move of joining Kaizer Chiefs, including a phone call with a senior figure at the Naturena-based side.
Teko Modise goes down in history as one of the brightest talents the country has produced having back-to-back PSL Footballer of the Season awards between 2008 and 2010.

He was adored by the Ghost, where he made 93 appearances, before a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he won the league title and CAF Champions League.
The 'Navigator', though, never fulfilled his dream of donning the famous Black and Gold jersey of the club he supported as a kid.
Speaking on the Izinja Ze Game Podcast, he reveals that the move nearly materialised when he received a call from football manager Bobby Motaung while he was still playing in the lower ranks.
"I could have played for Chiefs a little bit earlier, but I don’t know what happened. I think Bobby Motaung can tell the story a little better," admits the Meadowlands native.
"He called me after the first season of playing in Mvela and said: 'I want you to come play for Chiefs.'
"I said: 'I am ready whenever you are', and I waited for five, six years, and he never came through. That’s why I started disliking Chiefs.
"The number 10 jersey was waiting for me at Kaizer Chiefs. I knew I was going to do well. Imagine my performances for Pirates now at Chiefs.

"I wanted to play [for Chiefs]. The first team that I was introduced to as a kid was Kaizer Chiefs, so I knew everything about Chiefs," he recalled.
While this revelation may strike a nerve with some Pirates and even Sundowns fans, the 42-year-old has been vocal about his childhood admiration of not only Amakhosi his idol Doctor Khumalo too.
