Chippa may be in a rather precarious position on the league table, with just six games remaining in the campaign, but that has not hampered their ambitions of winning silverware.
The Port Elizabeth outfit advanced to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals over the weekend with a massive penalty shootout victory away to Bidvest Wits, after playing out to a thrilling 4-4 draw after extra-time.
Larsen could not help but praise his charges for the performance, while emphasising his belief that replicating such a showing will certainly see them avoid the drop.
“The fighting spirit of this team is second to none, and that’s why I’m confident in the league as well that this team won’t go down,” said Larsen.
“Because if we perform like that, we’re going to win more than we lose [in the remaining games].”
“Even the quality of our football – to have come [to Bidvest Stadium] and played the football we played against a very strong Wits team, that says a lot about Chippa United.”
The former Golden Arrows and Bloemfontein Celtic mentor also stressed that with the schedule that lies ahead, there is no reason why they cannot juggle the two competitions.
“People were asking aren’t we focussing [too much] on the cup, when we should be focussing on the league, but we’ve got a game every week with no midweek games, why not go for both and have good recovery in between games?
“I said it from the beginning, I believe this team won’t go down, so why can’t we try and keep the team up as well as try and win this cup? That’s exactly what we’re doing.
“Every game, we’ll put our strongest team out and hope to get a result,” he noted.
