Cape Town All Stars' Brandon 'Brakkies' Truter gears up for Nedbank Cup clash with Sundowns

All Stars, whose NFD franchise is being sold to Swallows FC, will host Absa Premiership leaders Sundowns in the last-32 of the Nedbank Cup at Athlone Stadium tonight (20h00).

Mosimane is suspended for the contest but Truter expects the 2016 CAF Coach of the Year to have prepared his star-studded squad in typically meticulous fashion.

"Facing a coach the calibre of Pitso with all his experience, titles and expertise, it's a nice challenge for me going forward, also to see where I'm at, to gauge myself you understand," Truter tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"But I think the bigger picture is all about the players at the moment, and also the opportunity they have to showcase their talents. Look I'll plan and try to come up with a plan to actually try, hope and win, because we are facing the [former] African champions.

"We are facing former multiple PSL champions. We are facing the [former] CAF Coach of the Year; players that were nominated for the best player in Africa you understand. Ja, so it's a big challenge, it's a big task... we would be stupid also to say 'ja we gonna be a giant killer, we gonna kill Sundowns'. At the moment it's ridiculous you understand, but at the same time don't discard the underdog.

"We will come up with a plan, formulate a plan as we are hoping to win. We will try to win the game or make it a game and not be overawed by the occasion and overridden by Sundowns. So we will make a fight about it. Having said that, the resources, the history and the experience between the two clubs is still large.

"You look at a player like Percy Tau who is valued at the transfer market at the moment at R25 million, and ja Cape Town All Stars has been sold to Swallows for less than that you understand. So that's the value of their squad. Jeremy Brockie... the calibre of the players they have on their bench; Themba Zwane, [Hlompho] Kekana was in the last game on the bench. So for them even to field a second-string team it's a team that can challenge even Bafana at the moment.

"So the quality is also high. But at the end of the day it's football hey, you never know what can happen. We will prepare as well as we can, we will see on Friday."

All Stars are 10th in the second-tier standings but can draw encouragement from being unbeaten this year.
