Bvuma has seen his fortunes change drastically in recent months, since captain Itumeleng Khune picked up a serious injury that has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Since being promoted to the Chiefs first team in March 2017, the 23-year-old has been largely a third-choice option over the past two seasons.
However, he has since made four appearances this season, after Virgil Vries failed to take his opportunity while Daniel Akpeyi is cup-tied in the Nedbank Cup.
Reflecting on his rise, the former Bidvest Wits academy youngster insists it is up to the coach to decide who plays on any given matchday, but admits he is no longer young and therefore needs to up his game to remain atop the pecking order.
“I can’t say they couldn’t keep their positions, it’s always the coach’s decision on who to pick on matchdays and stuff,” argued Bvuma.
“And I can’t say I’m young anymore – I’m turning 24 this year, so I don’t see myself as a youngster anymore.
“I always compete to get a chance to play, and as soon as you sign a contract with this club, you know you have that pressure on your shoulders.
“There are thousands of goalkeepers out there who want to be in the position I’m in right now and want to be the number one for Kaizer Chiefs.
“So, of course I want that number one spot, but I believe I’m still learning and I’m working my way there.”
