The Absa Premiership club is being accused of not properly registering one of their players after signing him from Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League outfit BTM Sports.
According to the club's director Freddy Mabulane, who was the CEO when BTM was still known as Witbank Spurs during their National First Division days, defender Aviwe Nyamende is still their player.
"Celtic might lose their Nedbank spot and a few points," he tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"There is a player by the name of Aviwe Nyamende who signed a contract with Spurs expiring June 2020, but they signed him and registered him without a termination letter from us.
"We signed this boy from an amateur side in the Vodacom last season, around January. We gave him a contract that expires this year. Ok, when we signed this boy we didn't register him with the League but we did have a professional contract.
"So when we released players to go join other teams this boy didn't come to us you see. We tried to find him without any success, so we can terminate his contract. Remember that when a person has got a contract he needs a termination letter for him to sign with another team, whether he is registered or not. He needs to terminate you see.
"So in this instance his contract was never terminated, it is still valid. All of a sudden we see him playing for Celtic, we asked the league how he was registered? We also spoke to Khumbulani [Konco, Celtic CEO], he was not cooperative, saying because they've already checked with the League they can go ahead and do whatever they wanted to do.
"We've put the matter to DRC, and if ever it happens the DRC rules in the right way, the points won in all the games he took part in will be docked plus the Nedbank spot. They [the PSL] stick on the point of saying there's no record of this boy, we must just talk to Celtic. It's Phindile Dlamini [from the League] who said so.
"Sis Phindi wrote us a letter to tell us that they've got no record of the boy's registration from us, which we fully understand. But the fact of the matter is the guy he's got a contract with us. Before he moved to another team he was supposed to be terminated.
"So we want to know if the rules of the League works for certain teams and not for others? Remember, we were paying this guy's full salary. They are saying this guy has got no record in the League, but when we couldn't pay him the League was able to act on behalf of this guy even though he was not registered.
"We don't need Celtic to maybe come and buy the player, no we don't want that. We just wanted to engage with them because they took him without our permission.
"He played in the AmaZulu game, when they beat AmaZulu, and then he got injured there and had to go out during half-time injured. In the league he played against Chippa. He played I think three games and they won those games, they only drew with Chippa."
Konco could not be reached for comment, while PSL prosecutor Nande Becker said he was not aware of such a matter.
