The 21-year-old has joined Maritzburg on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and has made an impressive start, scoring on debut in the 2-1 defeat to Free State Stars in Bethlehem in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
Makgalwa could get another opportunity when they take on Cape Town City in the MTN8 at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday (15h00).
“He [Makgalwa] did well, but we shouldn't put too much pressure on him. He's still young in the PSL, still a baby in terms of PSL minutes,” said Davids.
“He hasn't played 90 minutes of football in his [professional] career. He can't be the one to say 'hey, I'm here to replace Lebo'. It’s too much pressure, too soon and we have to give him time to adapt. We have to give him tome to get used to how we play, how we do things and I'm sure he'll add value in the coming season.”
Davids is expecting a tough battle against City, who lost out in the final on penalties to SuperSport United last season.
“They are a fantastic side. Benni McCarthy has really built something solid in defence and there’s real fluidity in attack and that is definitely what we got to be aware of,” Davids said.
“They've got this attack, exciting wingers that can change the game at any moment. They've got good striking depth as well – two, three, four options.”
