Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids happy team "stuck to the plan" against Mamelodi Sundowns

Evans Rusike’s 58th-minute strike proved the difference at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday to send the Team of Choice through as surprise semi-finalists, setting up a clash away to SuperSport United later this month.

“I think you have to give the players credit for the work they put in today. They stuck to the plan,” United boss Davids told SuperSport TV after the game.

“It’s never easy playing against Sundowns, they push you back - you don’t want to sit that deep but they push you back.

"They [Sundowns] could have scored, to be fair; they could have scored one or two goals at the end or one goal just before half-time but I think credit to the [Maritzburg United] players, they deserve to go to the next round for all the work they put in, pre-season and today.”

When asked if he had any further plans in the transfer period, Davids said: “Yes, one or two more signings, crucial signings.

“Yesterday [Saturday], we didn’t have all our players, so ya, still more players to come in.”
