Mamelodi Sundowns' Hlompho Kekana gears up for MTN8 quarter-final with Maritzburg United

Sundowns, who lost 3-0 to Bidvest Wits in last year's final, will host Maritzburg United in the quarter-finals of the event at Lucas Moripe Stadium today (15h00).

The Brazilians previously won the competition in 1988, 1990 and 2007.

“As a team we are preparing very well for the Maritzburg United game,” said Kekana.

“We are hoping to win the match. It will be very, very good feeling for us as we’ve never won the trophy. But going to the match we know that we need to win for us to see ourselves in the final again.”

Kekana is mindful much is expected of the African champions but he has faith in their preparations.

“When you play for a team like Mamelodi Sundowns it’s never easy. But we know that when we play we want to win.

“We’ve seen Maritzburg, we know how they play. They can be dangerous.  They can be dangerous, especially when they play away.

“We know their game plan. We’ve seen their preparations. We’ve seen their two matches that they’ve played during the off-season and I think we know their strength as a team.

“We are going to play our normal game and make sure that we win the match because we are playing at home.”
