Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt hails 'reinvented' star Daine Klate after MTN8 heroics

Klate celebrated his 13th appearance in a cup final with a brace of goals as he helped Wits beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 to snatch the MTN 8 trophy at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

"Since I brought him to the club, Daine for me has been fantastic servant. I don't think he gets the accolades he deserves in this game," Hunt said.

"I think it's his 13th or 14th final and he has won so many league titles. He should have had so many [more] caps for Bafana Bafana. If you want a left-side player, you won't get better.

Klate broke into professional football as winger at SuperSport United, but Hunt seems to have found a new position for him behind the strikers this season.

"I said to Klate, we need to reinvent you little bit. You’re no longer a youngster to run up and down [the wing]. We need to find a way to save you and make you more effective. And he has been," Hunt said.

“In the past three or four games he has played more inside, more as a number 10 and second striker. He still has one or two years in his playing career playing in this position.”
