Andrea Fileccia calm amid Maritzburg United's Absa Premiership struggles

Maritzburg finished a best-ever fourth in the league last term and reached a maiden cup final where they lost to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup decider.

However, Fadlu Davids' team have started 2018/19 badly as they were knocked out of the MTN8 at the first hurdle by Cape Town City, and currently prop up the Absa Premiership standings with a point from three games.

Fileccia, who made his first outing of the campaign in the goalless draw with Kaizer Chiefs last week after recovering from a calf injury, has faith they will improve when they resume their league campaign against Bidvest Wits at Harry Gwala Stadium on September 15.

"When you win the cup you go forward and when you lose you go home. I didn't play and I'm feeling very sad because we all want to win something this season.

"So I was very disappointed not to feature in that game because I got the injury."

Meanwhile, Fileccia, who scored nine goals and provided two assists in all competitions last term, is prepared to play anywhere across the frontline for Davids.

"Last season I was playing more as winger; it was either left-hand side or right-hand side, not as number nine and sometimes as number 10 too," Fileccia revealed.

"This season I want to do what I was doing last season ... I'm going to play where the coach wants me to play. The coach knows I can play as a winger, as number nine and number 10 too ... For me the position that I'm going to play doesn't matter because I know I can play in all four of those positions."
