'You don’t understand the amount of pressure, tension, anxiety'

Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexis Efstathiou details the intense emotions surrounding the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs as his side sit on the brink of a sensational return to the DStv Premiership.

The battle for promotion is a two-horse race with Spurs in pole position with 9 points from three matches and Maritzburg United in second position three points behind heading into Wednesday's decider.

Spurs need to avoid defeat at Maritzburg to clinch a return to the top-flight since 2018.

"Everyone was emotional because every game is important to us," Efstathiou tells KickOff.

"I don't think everyone understands the amount of pressure, tension, anxiety and all those emotions that you experience.

"At some point, everything explodes, and it's not something that you can control.

"We just need to carry on doing what we are doing. We just got to get to the next game and win or draw.

"We can only look at what we can do, we can't look at anything else.

"I think we will just carry on normally every day, we need to just relax and do what we have to do and not think about anything.

"So on Wednesday the players were just emotional, it's not like they were celebrating because there is nothing to celebrate.

"When the emotions are so high and as a goalkeeper, you pull a world-class save like that at the end.

"You can't explain, the emotions just come out of you. The goalkeeper was just happy when he realised, he just did what he did.

"People always look at who scored the goal to win a game, but in this case, it was the save that got the results at the end of the day.

"That ball was going straight into the top corner."
