Why Jomo Sono is struggling to produce

For many years, a number of big-name stars have come through the Cosmos ranks, including Reinelwe Letsholonyane, Katlego Mphela, Mark Fish and the late Phil Masinga.

While one can argue that Ezenkosi did produce the likes of Thabang Monare and Linda Mntambo, the truth is they have not been able to emulate the success of previous Cosmos graduates.

"I have realised that some of the players now they are comfortable to stay here and play here (in South Africa) where their friends are. So they are comfortable to play here. Because once you go overseas you don't only learn how to play football, you learn living in a different culture. You see different things, you learn about different businesses if you are overseas.

"The talent has always been there. It's just that they are not exposed to national teams (his current players). You can go to Leopards my players are there, go to Chippa my players are there...I'm talking about recent. You go to Pirates...where does 'Figo' (Mntambo) come from? Where does Monare come from? These are the latest players we talking about. They can never be the same (with the likes of Masinga and Fish), you can't give birth to the same thing again and again. The likes of Masinga they were fortunate they went overseas. These ones did get the opportunity to go overseas. So that's why the likes of Masinga improved because overseas your focus is your profession and nothing else.

"I don't know if you saw Cosmos playing on the weekend, you can take it from there. There are about two boys who are 20 there who I think will be big stars soon. One is a right-winger and the other one plays number five. I don't know if they will also end up overseas as it depends on luck and injuries. But I give them maybe two seasons for them to reach their full potential. They are highly talented."
