Maruping, who was on the books of TS Sporting last season, had been serving Callies as a performance analyst before being roped in as assistant coach to replace Sly Mosala.
Mosala has since joined Sekhukhune United, with Romans coach Sammy Troughton now confirming the former AmaTuks midfielder as his new right-hand man.
"He has been helping us as a performance analyst. He is a clever guy and has been into football for a long time," Troughton tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"We couldn't go for a better guy than him after Sly left us. I have great confidence in him."
Callies are fifth on the GladAfrica Championship table after 14 matches played, five points behind leaders Richards Bay.
