Baroka run riot over La Masia to move second

Baroka FC 4-1 NB La Masia

Baroka FC came back from a goal down to hammer NB La Masia 4-1 on Sunday and moved into second spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings.

La Masia pulled the first punch in the first half and carried the lead into the break, but Baroka hit back afterwards through Selemela and saw Sekela Sithole put them ahead.

Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele continued on the front foot and added two more through Kabelo Kgositsile and Khomotjo Lekoloane.

Magesi FC 2-2 Casric Stars

Magesi FC needed an own-goal in the dying minutes to secure a 2-2 draw against Casric Stars and go third on the table.

The host broke the deadlock late in the first half courtesy of Wonderboy Makhubu, but Stars levelled to go into the break through Thulane Mbonani on an equal footing.

Stars went in front following the interval courtesy of Siphelele Sangweni and threatened victory but an own-goal at the death gave Magesi a much-needed point.

University of Pretoria 2-0 Venda Football Academy

University of Pretoria registered a second straight win to cement sixth-place following a 2-0 victory over the Venda Football Academy.

AmaTuks needed only ten minutes to go in the lead when Delano Abrahams pounce before a dangerous head injury on Athenkosi Tonisi had Thabang Sibanyoni introduced as a first half substitute.

Veteran Samuel Julies confirmed the points though late in the second half when he tucked in from the penalty spot after a foul in the area.

Orbit College 2-1 JDR Stars

Orbit College continued their dominant debut campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and recorded a 2-1 win over JDR Stars in a top-of-the-table clash on Friday.

It was a fiery start with Orbit taking the lead through a smartly taken effort from Mbulelo Wagaba, but JDR hit back courtesy of Thokozani Lukhele.

However, Orbit regained the lead and subsequently all the points on the display as Wagaba finished off from a tight angle.

Hungry Lions 1-1 Milford Stallions

Relegation-threatened Milford Stallions endured yet another torrid outing and were only able to grab a 1-1 draw against Hungry Lions.

Both teams took a while to get going but Di Tau from the Northern Cape province raced ahead courtesy of Katlego Cwinyane, but Milford replied to snatch a point.

The outcome leaves Di Tau in fifth spot on the standings, while Milford sit at the bottom of the table as their struggling start to the season continues.

Maritzburg United 1-3 Pretoria Callies

Pretoria Callies finally got off the mark and overcame Maritzburg 3-1 in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.

Callies, who recently parted ways with coach Kwanele Kopo hadn't won in 12 matches and propped up the foot of the table.

However, the Romans came good this time around against the Team of Choice who drew first blood through Joslin Kamatuka before the visitors overturned the result to get their maiden win of the season.

Black Leopards 3-2 Marumo Gallants FC

Black Leopards returned to winning ways and cemented their top-half standing following an entertaining 3-2 victory over a ten-men Marumo Gallants FC.

Lidoda Duvha entered proceedings without a win from their last two matches, whilst Gallants thumped Pretoria Callies 4-2 before the FIFA break.

Leopards were ahead at halftime as Gallants had Saziso Magawana dismissed, but goals from Marvin Sikhosana and Monde Mphambaniso gave the visitors a glimmer of hope only for Leopards to end up sealing the win.

Platinum City Rovers 1-1 Upington City

Upington City missed the chance to close-in on the top-half after letting a halftime lead slip to see out a 1-1 draw against the bottom-three side Platinum City Rovers.

Bafana Ba Gucci were in the lead in the first period courtesy of veteran striker Carl Lark, but the host recovered and bagged a point in the final exchanges.

Rovers remain in the bottom-three as mentioned earlier, with Bafana Ba Gucci up in eight position on the table.
