'He's got another year or two left' - Bartlett planning to keep 38-year-old Clayton

Cape Town Spurs head coach Shaun Bartlett has indicated that the Western Cape-based outfit will keep the club's senior players following promotion to the DStv Premiership, including 38-year-old Clayton Daniels.

Spurs sealed a return to top-flight football with a crucial goalless draw against Maritzburg United in the last match of the PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoffs on Wednesday night at Harry Gwala Stadium.

While some clubs in the past have opted for an almost complete revamp of their squad upon sealing promotion to the Premiership, Bartlett insists Spurs will look to hold on to their senior players regardless of age.

"Listen, age is just a number, would you say that Clayton is 38? That Allie is 37? I know how to manage them," Bartlett said post-match.

"That's why Clayton could manage to play almost every game. In some games, I left him out, which he wasn't happy about but at the end of the day, how I manage the players is about matchday.

He [Clayton] doesn't have to run the same as a 19-year-old, he's been playing for 20 years. We've got to manage our players in a proper way in order to get the best out of them and for me he's got another year or two left easily.Shaun Bartlett on Clayton Daniels

In an interview with KickOff at the start of June, Bartlett also indicated that the Urban Warriors are looking to keep young Orlando Pirates' on-loan striker Boitumelo Radiopane.

"I think the least we could do is try and win it (promotion playoffs) so he (Radiopane) has got an opportunity, should he come back to us next season, to play in the Premiership," Bartlett told KickOff.
