Former referee Victor Hlungwani has issued his verdict on the controversial red card received by Cape Town Spurs striker Ashley Cupido in a PSL promotion playoff clash against Casric Stars that could prove costly.
Cape Town Spurs made it three wins from three with a narrow 1-0 win against Casric Stars on Wednesday to go top of the standings.
The clash was not without controversy as Spurs striker Cupido was shown a straight red following an altercation with Stars' Ngoanamello Rammala.
"Some people are complaining, asking what he [Cupudo] did. The player is kicked clearly, but let's see what the player does. He is now using abusive language," Hlungwane said on SoccerZone.
"There's an f-word that was used by this player when he was tackled, and the referee was close by to hear the f-word. That was the correct decision by the referee to give a red card to players that don't respect the laws of the game.
"The law says using abusive language or offensive language [is prohibited]."
