Isaacs: Hans Vonk was going to save Spurs

Former Cape Town Spurs center-back Dominic Isaacs is not surprised by the club's relegation to the ABC Motsepe League, stating that it has been a long time coming.

Isaacs played for the Cape Town-based club when it was still known as Ajax Cape Town. He acknowledges that much has changed in the club's operations since his tenure.

"It was very sad to see them get relegated, but even the supporters could see the direction in which the club was heading," Isaacs tells KickOff.

"I'm particularly concerned for the academy, as there are about 50 young players who may miss out on the opportunity to play in the National First Division or the Premier Soccer League. I don't know what will happen to the Spurs academy.

"I'm not surprised, though; everyone could see the trajectory of the club. You get out what you put in.

"But that is the reality of football: if you take things for granted and lack the right people in key positions, a situation like this is bound to occur.

"This has been a long time coming; I could see it. They could have brought Hans Vonk on board to manage the football aspects of the club.

"You can be a good businessman, but sometimes you need people with strong football knowledge in decision-making roles.

"Hans Vonk could have saved this club by making sound football decisions. He was in charge just before Ajax Amsterdam withdrew their support.

"When Hans was with the club, they were challenging for the top spot in the National First Division until a disagreement led to his departure.

"Many incorrect decisions were made, taking the club in the wrong direction.

"I don't know how solid their case against Durban City is, but to my understanding, JDR faced a similar case and lost.

"I'm sure that if another team were in Cape Town Spurs' position, they would have fought hard to stay up.

"Let's see if their evidence can change the outcome, but personally, I firmly believe that football should be decided on the field, not in the boardroom."

The case concerning Spurs and Durban City FC regarding Saziso Magawana is currently with the SAFA Arbitration.
