Clinton Larsen provides update on Masibusane Zongo at Bizana Pondo Chiefs

Larsen has admitted that he has not had much time to assess the former SuperSport United player as he is currently out nursing an injury.

However, everything is now left with the club chairman Nathi Mqokiyana to decide if the winger, who is reported to have signed a short-term deal, should be kept.

"At this point, everything is left with the chairman," Larsen tells snl24.com/kickoff

"He only trained for two days [since Larsen arrived on 23 March]. He hurt his groin in a friendly last week, so he's not training at the moment.

"Zongo will always be a player that's got the skill, I think everybody knows that. It's just that he's been out for a while so the match fitness from, what I saw, wasn't up to where it should be.

"But yeah, like I said, he didn't play long in the friendly game and he came out with a groin injury."

Asked if he was a fan of Zongo's style of play, which has often been described as 'street football' or 'showboating' at the height of his career, Larsen responded: "I think he is one of the most talented players when you look at his technical ability.

"But also, if you know the modern game, that's not enough. You know there's other elements that make up a good player, so I think those are things every single coach who has worked with Zongo has tried to improve you know.

"That's defensive work, trying to use his skill and flair in the right areas. So there's a lot of different things that I know for a fact, because I have read and heard all the things that previous coaches have said in terms of what part of his game has to improve so, I'm just going to be repeating what other coaches have said."
