The 64-year-old UEFA Pro Licence holder's previous coaching role was at Egyptian giants Al Ahly back in 2021, as assistant to Pitso Mosimane.
La Masia finished 13th in the standings last season with eight wins in 30 matches.
"La Masia is a club from my community, that's all," Johnson tells KickOff.
"We help the community, now and then, I'm not a coach.
"I'm just helping them to get their house in order to make sure they are doing specific things; I'm giving them advice.
"I'm not employed by the club, they don't pay me anything. There is no length of time to how long I'm going to do this.
"I'm just helping until I get another job, that's all. Delano Hendricks is the boss at La Masia.
"So far, I think they are okay for the season, but we will have to see."
