Cape Town Spurs sack Ian Taylor - GladAfrica Championship news

Taylor was initially hired as the assistant to Vladislav Heric at the start of the GladAfrica Championship season as Spurs rebranded from the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town.

Tasked to lead the Ikamva-based club back to the South African top-flight, poor results and the unavailability of Heric due to health concerns during the pandemic saw the Serbian replaced with Taylor in February.

But with Spurs still firmly within a relegation scrap, the club's CEO Alexi Efstathiou has made the bold call for another coaching change in the final stretch of the season.

"Ian was integral in instilling a positive mindset at Ikamva and everyone at Spurs would like to thank him for his contribution to the club," Efstathiou told the club's website.

"Unfortunately, the desired results have not been forthcoming on the field of play in recent weeks."

The Urban Warriors face Polokwane City next at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon (15h00).
