In this edition of Supporters Forum, KickOff speaks to Mamelodi Sundowns's Basetsana Mtsweng about her long-standing affair with the Premier Soccer League giants.
The 2023 Gauteng Sports Awards Fan of the Year winner reveals how even pregnancy and being a new mom couldn't stop her from traveling to stadiums to watch Masandawana play.
Name of supporter?
"My name is Basetsana Mtsweng, as for my nickname Mama ka Ntsontso, it's due to my love for football. What happened was when I was pregnant and even after giving birth I never stopped going to the Stadium to watch my favorite team play.
"My daughter's name is Tsontso, she started going to the the stadium when she was three months old. I took her everywhere."
Club supported?
"My brother Eric Mtsweng used to play for Mahwelereng Real Rovers, and my mother was part of the Pretoria Callies management, so we were a football-loving family, Sundowns stars Daniel Mudau and the late Samuel 'Ewee' Kambule, and the former Orlando Pirates star Aubrey Lekwane was also close to our family. So football was the only language we could understand.
"So because of Mambush and Kambule frequently visiting our home, I started supporting Sundowns and I have never changed."

How long supported?
"From an early age, since Primary. But I started being part of a branch in 2002."
Are you happy with the bosses?
"I am happy because I have realised that in life if you are always looking for mistakes you will never be happy.
"At Sundowns, we are treated as part of the family and not supporters."
Are you happy with the coach?
"I'm very happy. The man has been trying. Yes, he might have his flaws but he has become better compared to before when he was arrogant.
"But these days he's got time to speak to us as supporters. We are happy. The last time we threw stuff to a coach was during Johan Neeskens' era. I was one of those supporters who were blocked from coming to the Stadium."

Are you happy with the players?
"Sundowns's biggest challenge is having too many players. So they are always looking to impress."
Who do you want them to sign?
"I think we have got enough players. I don't think we should be signing anyone, I hear we will be loaning out some players."
Your message to the team?
"They must keep on doing us proud, we want to win the league again this year and one more trophy."
