Downs' star: You could see we struggled...

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams says the Brazilians will be even better in the 25/26 season, building from their impressive league-winning campaign.

Sundowns' players returned for the club's pre-season preparations earlier this week. The league winners were from a break of just two weeks after their campaign at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The global competition was the sixth competition Sundowns participated in last season, after being in the Betway Premiership, MTN8, Nedbank Cup, CAF Champions League and Carling Knockout.

Williams, who despite missing the first chins of the season due to injury, still played 39 matches last season.

Speaking to the club's media, the 33-year-old said he was relieved to have a break and vowed that the Brazillians would return stronger in the upcoming campaign.

"It's amazing [to be back]. It feels good to get the mind and body refocused now.

"We are doing all our testing so we can get back.

"I think it was important for us to relax, clear our minds, because it was a very long season for us.

"It was a massive season for us. Lots of games, lots of travelling, and you could see towards the end that we were on our last knee.

"So I think the rest was important. I know it's going to cut down and minimise our pre-season, but I think the most important thing is the rest and just clearing the mind.

"We are much better than we were last year. We were amazing, but we need to go one step ahead now. We need to lift more trophies."

Sundowns will kick off their 25/26 season with an MTN8 quarter-final clash against Richards Bay.
