Cardoso question marks as Downs seek inspiration

Ahead of the second leg of the CAF Champions League final, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso's starting line-up for the first leg has been called into question, with advice now churned out.

Sundowns failed to secure a home victory against Pyramids FC at a packed Loftus Versfeld Stadium last Saturday, with the match ending 1-1 draw after the Egyptians equalized in the dying minutes.

Pressure swings The Brazilians' way for the decider at 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Sunday, as a 0-0 stalemate, among other permutations, will be enough to ensure Krunoslav Jurčić's men are this season's champions.

"What happened at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday was not a good result for Sundowns," admits the legendary Ernest Mtawali.

"Right now, they have to go to Egypt and defeat Pyramids. Sundowns have all the experience, as long as the coach selects the right team filled with experienced players for the Champions League.

"I wasn't happy with the team that played on Saturday. I believe the Sundowns coach left out many experienced players who have Champions League pedigree, such as Themba Zwane and Peter Shalulile.

"I think those players should have started the game," he adds, noting how tactically astute the opponent is.

"They used the space very well. Sundowns may have forced them into a corner kick, but Pyramids managed to escape by quickly switching the ball to a teammate, which was a smart tactic.

"They are a tactically strong team, and Sundowns should go there prepared because Pyramids are playing at home and have already scored an away goal."
