Sirino update post Sundowns exit

Gaston Sirino's options for the DStv Premiership have been strengthened by his availability on the market as a non-foreign player.

Though born in Uruguay, Sirino has held South African permanent residence since the beginning of 2023 after completing five years in the country.

Having never played for Uruguay before, this has made the 33-year-old eligible for Bafana Bafana selection.

Sirino now has both a South African ID and passport, which starts with D4 and ends with 7.

He has been a league champion for all the seven seasons that he has spent in South Africa having joined Mamelodi Sundowns from Bolivian club Bolivar halfway through the 2017/18 campaign.

However, his departure from Chloorkop will mean a new challenge at other another club.

Sekhukhune United have been amongst the first clubs mentioned.

The fact that they train in Johannesburg will mean no relocation for Sirino, but matters relating to his package will need to be ironed out first.

Sirino is settled with his family in Gauteng, which gives clubs from the province an advantage.

There has also been whispers of the Gulf, where the pint-sized midfielder's financial expectations will be met.

The Uruguayan-South African had seven goal contributions in 24 games last season.
