Cardoso’s go-to figure at Sundowns emerges

Teboho Mokoena has emerged as the go-to man for Miguel Cardoso as the Portuguese gets on with business ahead of what should ultimately count as his first full season in charge.

Since taking over in December, Cardoso has overseen 40 games at Sundowns with his count for wins at 26 including the club’s first ever at the FIFA Club World Cup which came against Ulsan UD.

There have been eight draws and six defeats.

The Portuguese has been involved in the Club World Cup, Betway Premiership, MTN8, and Nedbank Cup.

He won the league, lost in the Champions League final, came stuck in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, put up a fight in the Club World Cup group stages, and is currently in the MTN8 semis.

In doing all this, Cardoso has had Mokoena playing the most games under him.

The 28-year-old has played all but two of those 40 games.

He was rested for the Nedbank Cup win over Sibanye Golden Stars in January after having not been involved in Cardoso’s first league match which was against Stellenbosch in December.

Mokoena has been used as a substitute in five games and played every match in the Champions League from start to finish.

The queue of players that have earned the trust of Cardoso then has Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Marcelo Allende, Jayden Adams, Iqraam Rayners, and Arthur Sales.
