Shandre Campbell's Belgian transfer to Club NXT sets record

With South African sensation Shandre Campbell having netted on his Club NXT debut, the young forward now appears to have set a new record at the Belgian outfit after his transfer. Here's a look!

The story

The 19-year-old has hit the ground running in 2024/25 Challenger Pro League after he scored a stunning volley from outside the box in his first appearance for the club.

Campbell's strike salvaged a point for his side as his goal levelled the scores in Club NXT's 2-2 draw against Patro Eisden last Saturday.

The attacker joined Club NXT from SuperSport United in July in a deal worth €800 000 (R15.8 million).

Now according to Transfermarket, the deal makes him only the third most-expensive signing by Club NXT, trailing only Ecuadorian star Joel Ordonez and Spaniard Alejandro Granados.

Ordonez is the most expensive transfer at the club after a fee of €3.9 million (R77.1 million) was paid to Independiente to acquire his services. Granados' €1.36 million transfer fee from Orlando City B places him second in this regard.

Most notably, however, Campbell's €800 000 fee now means he is Club NXT's most expensive African that the team has ever signed, beating Guinean player Ibrahima Fofana and Ivorian star Abakar Sylla.

Club NXT are seventh in the Belgian second-tier with five points from three games, which puts them just two points adrift from log-leaders K.M.S.K. Deinze.

Campbell's development will be key to watch under his new head coach Robin Veldman, as the tactician has also had previously had the likes of Tottenham Hotspur legend Jan Vertonghen under his wing.
