Although he had not officially announced his retirement, Mere transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for TS Galaxy's Diski Challenge team at the end of the 2023/24 season.

He was later promoted to the role of assistant coach to first team head coach Adnan Beganovic. However, he reportedly parted ways with the Mpumalanga-based club last month.

The Bloemfontein-born legend built a respected career with several top-flight clubs, including now-defunct Bidvest Wits, Platinum Stars, and Moroka Swallows.

Renowned for his consistency, leadership, and adaptability on the field, he leaves behind a legacy that has inspired many across South African football.
