Dr. Motaung earns his place alongside icons Mandela & Tutu

Kaizer Chiefs have announced that their founder Dr. Kaizer Motaung will be inducted into the South African sports hall of fame later this week.

The story

On Tuesday, the Soweto giants confirmed that their owner has now been reserved a spot in South African history, as he is set to given a lifetime honour for his massive contribution in sports. 

The good news comes of the back of the legend's 79th birthday last week, and on Thursday, 9 November, he will ceremoniously take his place among the greats that Mzansi has ever seen. 

In a statement by Amakhosi's official website, the chairman of the South African Hall of Fame, Johnny Burge, said: "Dr. Kaizer Motaung, an iconic figure in South African sports history, has significantly shaped the landscape of football in the nation.

"As the visionary founder and chairman of the renowned Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, his influence reaches far beyond the field. With this induction, his extraordinary contributions will be permanently enshrined in the annals of the South African Hall of Fame."

It is said that the ceremony will be hosted at a venue  befitting the stature of this monumental occasion and esteemed guests from various sectors will come together in celebration of 'Shintsha Guluva' - which his Motaung Senior's famous nickname. 

Previous inducties into the South African Hall of Fame includes country's first democratic president Nelson Mandela, iconic golfer Gary Player, as well as the 1995 and 2007 Springbok Rugby World Cup winning teams. Bafana Bafana's 1995 Afcon winning squad have also been inducted, while the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu was a more recent inclusion in 2019 before his sad passing in 2021.
