Why Kaizer Chiefs don’t need to make panic signings in January

Kaizer Chiefs have been pushed to avoid plunging into the January transfer window in a bid to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season as the agony of the trophy drought continues.

Chiefs have already made known that they are in the hunt for another number nine and have been linked with several names who include Hungarian forward Balint Bajner and Boris Kopitovic from Montenegro while attacking midfielder Pule Mmodi is also being spoken about.

However, what is worth noting for Chiefs is that their list of mid-season business through the years has been largely disappointing and average at best with Katlego Mphela, Leonardo Castro, Stanton Lewis, Abia Nale, Josta Dladla, David Zulu, William Twala, Gustavo Paez, Jose Torrealba, and Ibezito Ogbonna delivering little at the club.

"Honestly, if we can keep our number nines away from the hospital bed and injuries then I don't think we need to buy anybody in this January transfer window," club legend Mohammed Ouseb tells KickOff.com.

The Chiefs attack is led by Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana supported by Ashley Du Preez.

"I don't think there is any need if we can keep those guys fit.

"All the other positions I think we are covered.

"There was one a time when the big guy (Bimenyimana) upfront was injured and Du Preez was also injured, and it became an issue.

"When such injuries happen then another number nine might do if you take into consideration the injuries that we have had before.

"But honestly, I don't see any need to buy now.

"I don't know about the rumours of the European guy, but I feel we can keep those two guys Caleb and Du Preez fit enough then I don't see any need for Chiefs to buy anybody," says the 1998/99 KICK OFF Footballer of the Season who had top marks in all his three years at Chiefs before leaving for Europe.
