Born in Madeira, Portugal, Pereira was once the most transfer and went on to lift 10 trophies at Chiefs after playing with Walter Rautmann at Powerlines.

"I first played against Jingles Pereira in 1964 when I first came to South Africa when he was at Vaal United, which was a team from Vereeniging," says Rautmann.

"That time, I played for Pretoria for Pretoria Suburbs which was a team run by Greeks, Germans, and Austrians.

"I had been in America and so came here with Austrians that I played with, and we won 13-1 in a game in which I think I scored seven goals.

"That was my first contact with Jingles before he went to Chiefs.

"Then he became my teammate at Powerlines with Walter da Silva and all other top-class players who made that team rank in the same bracket as Highlands Park and Durban City.

"It was a forward line made up of me, Jingles Pereira and Walter and we scored a lot of goals.

"Powerlines was a team owned by Italians which is why I went to Inter Milan after top scoring.

"Then I played against Jingles again when I was at Moroka Swallows, and he was at Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City.

"Even when I coached Witbank Aces and AmaZulu, I still had many games against him.

"Just a few months ago I spoke to him after he brought me a few players to coach.

"A few months ago, he was okay, but then now I hear he is no more.

"We had stayed good friends over the years and always brought me players me players for training and I respected him, from when he was a footballer through to doing business," says Rautmann, who turned 78 on August 30.
