Tefu Mashamaite happy with BK Hacken debut against Halmstads BK

‘Masha’ made his first appearance for the Swedish top-flight side after finally being granted his work permit last week, and the 30-year-old managed the full 90 minutes to help his team keep their opponents at bay.

“It was a good feeling to finally be out there [on the pitch],” Mashamaite tells snl24.com/kickoff.

Barring an own-goal from Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Abubakari, Hacken managed to minimise the threat posed by Mashamaite’s former teammate Matthew Rusike and ex-Kaizer Chiefs trialist James Keene.

“It was Matt [Rusike] and James Keene [that I was up against], so it was two vs one, and I’m happy they didn’t score!” says the current PSL and KICK OFF Footballer of the Season.

The former Chiefs captain admits the fans have received him well in Gothenburg and adds that Rusike, who has scored four goals in six games for Halmstads this season, is also a fan favourite.

“Matthew is looking good, and people really appreciate him here [in Sweden]. Every time I win the ball they [the supporters] would shout ‘well done captain’ – referring to me having captained Chiefs,” he adds.

Hacken’s next fixture is against second-placed AIK on Saturday, and Mashamaite will be hoping to build on his solid start to his overseas career.
