My Locker Room Secrets: Themba Seli

In the latest edition of My Locker Secrets, former Kaizer Chiefs defender Themba Seli shares what used to take place in the Amakhosi change room.

Seli joined Chiefs from Free State Stars and spent three years with the Glamour Boys.

Who was always late?

"Doctor Khumalo. Until today, I still don't know why he was always late (laughs).

"He is my legend, so I can't ask him, why he couldn't keep time. Even our coach Muhsin Ertugral wouldn't dare ask him.

"Doctor was a legend there at Chiefs, you wouldn't dare touch him (laughs)."

Any interesting ritual before you played?

"All of us brought our own stuff from home (laughs). As you saw during Saturday's final between Pirates and Sundowns somebody brought a match."

Who was the jokester?

"Jabu Pule and Patrick Mbuthu. Those guys gave us a tough time. They didn't care if you were Doctor Khumalo, Lifa Gqosha or Martin Zwane. They were always up to their mischiefs."

Was it a multi-change room?

"Marco Mthembu loved praying. We would also join in because our muti worked well with prayer."

Who was the singer?

"Mbuthu and Jabu. Those boys could sing."

Who was the best dressed and worst dressed?

"Everybody had style. The Gauteng guys were leading though in that department. The likes of Thabo Mooki, Lucky Maselesele, and Isaac Mabotsa always looked good.

"Worst dresser was Siyabonga Nomvethe (laughs). He was just too simple. Patrick Mbuthu was always in the club's attire. He was not buying clothes that one."

Rate the coach's team talk

"Only Muhsin Ertugral coached me at Chiefs. His assistant Steve Komphela was the one who gave powerful team talks, that guy is a great motivator."
