Makaab: Chiefs won't mind me saying this

Prominent agent Mike Makaab has chimed in on why youngsters at Kaizer Chiefs have not made the same impact as the likes of Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United peers, Relebohile Mofokeng and Shandre Campbell.

Chiefs youngsters, such as Mduduzi Shabalala, Samkelo Zwane and Wandile Duba, have yet to set the DStv Premiership alight in the same way that the likes of Mofokeng and Campbell have done.

The latter duo are competing for the league's Young Player of the Season award, along with Ime Okon of SuperSport, with all the three players already strongly linked with moves overseas.

The likes of Mfundo Vilakazi and Duba only started to get cameo appearances under interim coach Cavin Johnson, who also introduced Donay Jansen into the first team at the tail-end of the campaign.

Makaab, who represents a bevy of youngsters, including Zwane and Campbell, as CEO of ProSport International, has explained why young players coming through at Amakhosi are yet to consistently produce the goods at the club.

"The youngsters at Chiefs ... and I know that Chiefs won't mind me saying this ... the youngsters at Chiefs have had a very difficult environment to break through," Makaab told KickOff in an exclusive interview.

"People want to compare a Campbell, a Mofokeng to the Shabbas [Mduduzi Shabalala] and the Vilakazis and the Zwanes. They've got an incredible group of youngsters at Chiefs, but the difficulty of youngsters at a big football club is that when the club is not consistently doing well, it's difficult to put that pressure on the kids.

"Extremely difficult.

"Some of them can take it, some of them can't. So, I think if we see a stabilized Chiefs this season, you're gonna see those youngsters come through with absolute flying colours," he added.
