Kaze draws lessons for Chiefs after cup win

Assistant coach Cedric Kaze has opened up on some of the lessons learned from Kaizer Chiefs' victory in the Home of Legends Cup where Amakhosi defeated Lamontville Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Although no points were at stake, Amakhosi showed their winning calibre by clinching the Home of Legends Cup title and bragging rights at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday.

Goals from Mfundo Vilakazi and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo were enough to see off Abafana Bes'thende in the opening match.

In the final against Sundowns, who had defeated Chippa United in their opening match, The Soweto Giants and the Brazilians could not be separated and [pushed each other to a penalty shootout.

Chief walked away 1-0 winners.

Speaking to the club's media after the tournament, Cedirc Kaze said the friendly tournament had given him and his technical team a chance to look at fresh combinations and players who had not played,

"First of all, we have to thank members of the organising committee. I think it was a nice event," said Kaze, who held the helm in the absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

"Another thing I feel it was a positive tournament everyone had time to play. We had a chance to come to look for different combinations.

"Overall in the two games, I feel like we had a good and consistent performance."

Some of those players included Mduduzi Mdantsane who made his first return to action since undergoing surgery on his jaw after a motor vehicle accident.

Tebogo Potsane and Pule Mmodi also some rare bit of action, while Brandon Petersen also made a bid for the goalkeeper position with a standout performance after recovering from a finger injury.

In the heart of the defence, Given Msimango and Zitha Kwinika also showed they have what it takes in the absence of Rushwin Dortley, with the duo each getting a chance to play alongside Inacio Miguel.

"The win means so much to me, it was my birthday," added goal scorer Ngcobo.

"I had a good day with my colleagues doing what I love. It was a great way to celebrate my birthday with a goal and we are happy we won the cup."

Chiefs return to competitive action on 27 November when they take on Richards Bay.
