Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has assessed Kaizer Chiefs’ new trio of Etiosa Ighodaro, Luke Baartman, and Asanele Velebayi, who are all expected to make their debuts soon.
With three wins on the bounce, Chiefs are dominating proceedings on the pitch. However, it can be argued they are also winning off the pitch having renforced the squad with further new additions in Velebayi, Baartman, and Ighadaro, with the latter two being unveiled on Tuesday.
It takes the tally of new signings up to nine, in addition to Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Thabiso Monyane, and Paseka Mako.
Speaking on SuperSport TV after a 1-0 win over Richards Bay FC, during which Velebayi, Baartman and Ighodaro were unveiled at half-time, Motaung Jr. said the club is excited to have brought in some of the best young talent in the country.
"We are very excited, and we've always had a clear strategy about getting the best young talent. We’re just very pleased to welcome them – obviously, there are a few administrative issues still to be addressed," he shared.
"But we’re very excited, especially in bringing Ighodaro upfront. We know the young talent with Baartman and Velebayi, we’re excited to unleash them on the fans, but at the same time, they will need some time to understand who we are.
"This process hasn’t been easy. Again, the squad is peaking, but we’re still very much a work in progress."
Tuesday's win keeps Amakhosi second on the log, behind Sekhukhune United only on goal difference, and they next face Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.
