Insider: Chiefs has learned from those mistakes...

With just days left in the transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs' management is stepping up their pursuit for reinforcements and drawing lessons from past transfer windows, according to insiders.

Chiefs have made no secret of the need for new arrivals in the squad as they aim to build a competitive team in the last five months of the season.

Although yet to be unveiled, the side have already wrapped up two signings this window, in the form of SuperSport United's Tashreeq Morris and winger Makabi Lilepo from the DRC.

According to insiders, the club is not done yet and efforts are underway behind the scenes to add further strength, particularly drawing a lesson from last term, where they famously opted against recruiting in January - a disastrous move that led to a 10th place finish.

The Soweto giants have also previously been accused of being tardy and non-competitive in the market. However, they seem to be turning it around.

"Yes, there are some lessons taken from things like that (previous windows). The club is trying harder now on that front, to get the right players. There's a few players that will come... but that's for the club to reveal," a source close to proceedings at Chiefs told KickOff.com.

Chiefs are understood to be on high alert over Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabo Cele - who recently parted ways with Russian club FC Fakel Voronezh due to an illness in the midfielder's family, according to a club statement.

The situation presents an opportunity for them to secure the services of a player who has long been linked with a move to Naturena, and those in the know suggest it will come as little surprise to see the 28-year-old don the famous shirt.

Amakhosi are also still interested in Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien and Polokwane City's Oswin Appollis, although both clubs have so far rejected their approaches for the pair.

However, Chiefs could find better joy down in KwaZulu-Natal, where they have turned their attention to Richards Bay FC right-back Lwandile Mabuya.
