Ex-PSL coach: What is derailing Chiefs...

An experienced former PSL coach has revealed what he believes is the biggest shortcoming at Kaizer Chiefs under head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Doubts are beginning to emerge on the capability of Nabi to make Chiefs competitive again, after they were outclassed and humiliated by Mamelodi Sundowns, who dominated them in all departments in a 4-0 Carling Knockout quarter-finals victory.

One of the biggest talking points was how midfielder Samkelo Zwane tried to be fancy with a back-heel pass that did not go according to plan, thus putting Njabulo Blom under pressure.

Blom eventually conceded a penalty, for the first goal conceded on Saturday at FNB Stadium.

The Tunisian-Belgian's game model has been that of building from the back and using technical players in midfield to distribute the ball.

He has seemingly gone for the same approach in attack, as he has preferred youngsters such as Wandile Duba, for a technical ability over scoring prowess, as strikers such as Ashley Du Preez, who is not technically sound, have been sidelined on the bench.

An ex-PSL coach, who has managed at least five teams in the Premiership in over a decade, has suggested that the Amakhosi technical team has emphasized playing pretty football and have forgotten the art of goal-scoring, a problem they need to fix.

"When I was coaching in the PSL, we used to have games every day in training and friendly matches where the team is scoring 15 to 20 goals and they gained confidence," said the coach, though preferring anonymity, speaking to KickOff.com.

"You've got to have situations where it's game realistic, game-related and the identity of football now is all about passing, keeping possession, playing pretty football and we've forgotten the art of goal-scoring.

"That's what the coach and the technical team have to fix," the coach added.

The Naturena-based outfit will not appear officially again until 27 November when they host Richards Bay FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
