Chiefs fans warned: 'It takes time to rebuild'

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Sergio Dos Santos has warned the club's supporters not to set their expectations too high for next season.

Judging by the excitement, it is not a secret that the Amakhosi faithful are expecting miracles from incoming head coach Nasredine Nabi in the 2024/25 Season.

The Soweto giants have failed to win some silverware for about eight consecutive seasons and finished in tenth position at the end of the last DStv Premiership campaign.

"Chiefs at the moment they are getting rid of players, what are the supporters doing? They are crying because the club is going to get rid of this one and that one," Santos tells KickOff.

"Kaizer Chiefs they made a big mistake by letting Gavin Hunt go. He was going to give the youngsters a chance, and he was going to rebuild the team.

"They kicked him out, and two years later they have probably spent R5 million more and now they are gonna start rebuilding the team again. It's gonna take another year.

"Can they win anything next season? I don't know, what I'm saying is they going to have to rebuild the team again.

"The new coach he's gonna have to start bringing new players and start all over again. That means nothing has happened since Gavin Hunt left. It was worse.

"You can't buy new players and expect the team to be fantastic straight away, it takes time to rebuild it.

"The new coach first he's got to know the local football, how it operates, the mentality of the South African players, he's got to put the picture together and that takes time.

"You can't do that in two, or three months, it takes at least six months for things to start going properly, hence I'm saying one year.

"By the end of next season if Kaizer Chiefs is in the top four positions and challenging for something, then we will know they are back on track and traveling in the right direction."
