Chiefs player: We have to take responsibility

Dillan Solomons has stood up to accept that players have to shoulder the blame for what has happened at Kaizer Chiefs this season.

What has been Nasreddine Nabi’s first season in charge has turned into a zigzag show as evidenced by Chiefs’ position on the league standings after winning only eight out of 25.

The biggest plus is that they will play in the Nedbank Cup on May 10 with a chance of ending the 10 years of waiting for silverware.

Fair enough, a chance for a trophy is welcome for the Khosi family, but that doesn’t eliminate the fact that they are not competing in the league.

"The pre-season was special for us as a team obviously with a new technical staff, new players coming in, so people expected a better showing than last season," notes Solomons.

"So, obviously it didn’t happen, but as players, we have to take responsibility, and we have to say that the inconsistency is also us rather than blaming other people.

"We have to take responsibility, and we have to show that in this last stretch that we can do it as a team.

"We can show people what we are about and not just on the field but our character.

"We look forward to showing people what we can do and obviously we are in the final, but that’s a bit further, so we have to stay focused on the games ahead.

"Hopefully, we can put some smiles on the whole of South Africa’s faces," says Solomons, who is into his third season at Naturena.

While the Capetonian’s contribution moved from 26 in his first season to 15 last term, he is hoping to improve on his 12 appearances to date after playing nine in a row this year.

"When I’m healthy, I feel good and can help the team.

"I would have hoped for a lot more, but that is the way it was put out for me," he says.
