Back at square one yet again, following the sacking of Molefi Ntseki and subsequent interim appointment of Cavin Johnson, Kaizer Chiefs still have the option of reconsidering pursuing one of their previous prime targets.
Midway through 2018 after Steve Komphela was fired having failed to deliver silverware in three years, Chiefs were in search for a new man to take over their first team.

Through that process they identified Irishman Mick McCarthy.

Contact was made with the former Manchester City defender who was available having come out of a six year stay with Championship club Ipswich Town.
However, McCarthy – who confirmed contact had been made with him from South Africa – decided against considering any further talks to take up the offer.
Six months later, McCarthy was appointed for his second stint as the new head coach of the Irish senior national team but only lasted 18 months in the job.
From there he went on to Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia lasting two months before he was sacked in January 2021.
Since then, the 64-year-old has been with Championship clubs Cardiff City and Blackpool but has been without a job since April 2023.
The veteran coach left Blackpool by mutual consent due to result related issues.

With McCarthy available and Chiefs on the market, this website has been told a recommendation has been made for Chiefs to revisit that option with an agent known to this website at the forefront.

McCarthy is vastly experienced having also coached Millwall, Sunderland, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
KickOff has been informed that the other names that have been recommended are Said Ouaali and Aleksandar Jankovic with Alex McLeish also being mentioned in the search process that remains in the early stages.
Chiefs have had Jeff Butler, Joe Frickleton, Eddie Lewis, Geoff Hudson, and Stuart Baxter as coaches from the part of Europe where McCarthy comes from running the show the show at the club before.
