Chiefs’ multi-million technical team restructure cost

The shambles that Kaizer Chiefs have sunk themselves into will now come at a heavy cost if the club is to finally sort out the mess that they have created with their recent line of appointments.

Chiefs have yet again found themselves back at crossroads just like they were in June after deciding against continuing with Arthur Zwane.

Zwane was an experimental appointment who was handed his first head coach job without having worked in the same capacity anywhere else before.

It didn't work out and he was demoted back to assistant with Molefi Ntseki taking over before being thrown across Lena Road back to development this week with the interim appointment of Cavin Johnson.

Johnson has been brought to take care of business while the club makes the call on who to bring in next to fix the jumble that has become of the Chiefs dressing room as the trophy wait nears nine years.

As is always the case, the CVs have flooded the inbox at Naturena.

The opportunistic, hopeless, experienced, and appropriate have all raised their hands of interest in the job while some that would be perfect fits will have to be head hunted.

Attempting any further 'spin the bottle' decisions will be suicidal at a club already feeling the weight of the crisis on its knees.

No need for sentimental appointments as the club needs a coach with proven pedigree which will come at a cost and have the AmaKhosi accepting the reality if that a new head coach comes with his own assistant, goalkeeper coach, physical trainer, and video analyst.

That is the modern trend in the game and is being done by Pitso Mosimane who moves with his team of assistant, goalkeeper coach, performance analyst, and fitness trainer with every job to avoid complications that come with adopting 'aligned' members.

KickOff can confirm that for this to happen Chiefs will have to be ready to spend about R15 million per annum on that technical team.

This will be broken down to about R1,2 million every month on the three or four members of the new technical team.

The bulk – approximately 55% will go to the head coach – with the rest of the technical team members sharing the difference.

It means Chiefs will pay a minimum of R500 000 net (approx. USD26 000) depending on the level of the coach that they get.

Coaches in the bracket of those that Chiefs will desire, who are working on the continent, peg their earnings either in US dollars or Euros.

The structure of these deals is negotiated with winning bonuses, accommodation, flight tickets, and other perks.

With the support staffers, their earnings are in the region of a minimum USD4000 (approx. R76 000) depending on the position, experience, and budget of the club in question.

Five agents – two of whom are based in South Africa and have done business with Chiefs at that level with the other three based in Egypt, UAE, and Europe – have spoken to this website about the weight of the finances that will come with restructuring the technical team at Naturena.

Chiefs are aiming to have their new man before the turn of the New Year which will allow him six weeks with the team during the AFCON break.
