Kaizer Chiefs will have to exercise extreme caution in making their next coaching appointment in the aftermath of two experimental decisions that have backfired leaving them at crossroads yet again.
The writing was always on the wall that Arthur Zwane and Molefi Ntseki were not going to work out based on their respective backgrounds.

For starters, in becoming the Chiefs head coach, both were in their first jobs in the same capacity in the DStv Premiership.
Prior to his appointment, Zwane had been a support staffer since the days of Vladimir Vermezovic just post his retirement from playing in 2010.
While in the past he was able to escape the bullets through the comforts of being an assistant, in the 2022/23 season he failed to deliver.

Losing 12 league games out of 30 was the worst that Chiefs have had to endure in the modern-day PSL with AmaKhosi also ending with a negative goal difference.
The defence was leaking and conceded 33 which was so bad that it was only better than relegated Marumo Gallants by just a single goal.
There was no need for any microscopic analysis and so Zwane was relegated back to assistant with the clocking topping eight years without silverware.
All the promises that Zwane kept on making in promising results went down the drain.
Enter Ntseki.

Just like Zwane, Ntseki was tasting new waters in an experiment that also didn't work out.
Ntseki had only been head coach in the division at African Warriors for two years from 2007 to 2009 after which he became an assistant coach at Bloemfontein Celtic for another two years.
Then after Celtic, Ntseki went on to work at SAFA where he rose through the ranks before his sacking after failure to qualify for the 2021 AFCON finals.
The 54-year-old has since been fired for reasons related to results after winning only four out of 13.
Questions will be asked about his dressing room command and how much he inspired the players.

Chiefs are now back in the boardroom dealing with discussions related to who they will have in charge next.
The powers that be at the club will have so much to consider about the decisions that they have made in recent times.
Besides Ntseki and Zwane, Steve Komphela and Giovanni Solinas were also appointed without having won any silverware before.
Johnson – who is the caretaker coach – also falls in the same bracket.
The question facing the Motaungs at this juncture is on whether they will get it right this time with the trophy drought nearing a decade.
