‘Lost and found’ for PSL footballer

Phakamani Lungisani Mahlambi is living up to his first both his names by standing up in seeking to fix his football career again four years since his last appearance.

Fact is that the speedster last played competitive football in September 2021 while he was on loan at Chippa United from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mahlambi joined Sundowns in 2018 after spending a year at Al Ahly and in seven years since his return from Cairo has only had a single solid season.

This was his first (2018/19) back in the country when he scored six goals in 29 appearances.

The next season he scored once at Sundowns then went away to AmaZulu FC, where he played thrice, before playing only three games again while on loan at Chippa in the 2021/22 campaign.

That was the last he was heard of playing his last game in September 2021 before returning to Sundowns where he was then released.

Mahlambi tormented opponents as a teenager at Bidvest Wits and earned Bafana Bafana caps but is now seeking another chance in the game at Durban City where he has been allowed to start training by Gavin Hunt.

Hunt handed him his professional debut at the start of the 2015/16 season at Wits and was in charge again when he played his last match at Chippa.

Mahlambi will only turn 28 in mid-September.
