Durban City target Malawian stars

PSL newcomers Durban City could swoop on two Malawian players after impressing the club during the Airtel Top Eight final held in Lilongwe the past weekend.

Durban City have been busy in the transfer market in a bid to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season. The KwaZulu-Natal-based side has already set their sights on Darren Keet, Thabang Sibanyoni, Liam De Kock, and Thabo Nodada after being spotted with the club during a practice match against Golden Arrows in Durban the past weekend.

City have already roped in seasoned coach Gavin Hunt after parting ways with Simo Dladla during the off-season.

According to sources close to the club, technical director, Ernst Middendorp, travelled to Malawi the past weekend to assess defender Blessings Mpokera and striker Chikumbutso Salima in action during a cup final between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers.

“Durban City has opened talks with Nyasa Big Bullets for the services of Blessings Mpokera and striker Chikumbutso Salima. The technical director, Ernst Middendorp travelled to Malawi to watch the two players in a cup final and was impressed,” a source informed KickOff. 

Durban City have parted ways Joslin Kamatuka and Ruzaigh Gamildien despite helping the club gain promotion to the PSL.
