PSG to 'hijack' Arsenal’s R1.6bn transfer target

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly weighing up a move for a Real Madrid star who is also said to be on Premier League giants Arsenal’s radar.

Brazilian forward Rodrygo has been making headlines recently, with reports suggesting that Arsenal are targeting him for a potential transfer.

Rodrygo joined Real Madrid in 2019, but with fierce competition under head coach Xabi Alonso, speculation has grown that his time at the La Liga powerhouse could be nearing an end, despite his current contract running until June 30, 2028.

Amid reports that Arsenal have been closely monitoring the 24-year-old, new developments indicate that PSG are attempting to hijack the Gunners’ transfer plans, aiming to secure Rodrygo ahead of the 2025/26 season.

According to reports, the reigning UEFA Champions League winners have launched a bid to sign the Madrid star at the request of head coach Luis Enrique.

It is understood that Madrid are demanding around €80 million (approximately R1.6 billion), though PSG are reportedly hoping to negotiate a lower fee.

However, Madrid boss Alonso was recently quoted by Football365 expressing his belief that Rodrygo still has much to offer the club.

"He looks good, enthusiastic. The other day [against Pachuca] was a technical decision but he’s still important, he’s a special player," Alonso said.

"I think he’ll play an important part at this Club World Cup."

So far, the forward has made two appearances in Madrid’s four Club World Cup matches, registering one assist. He will be hoping to play when Madrid square off against Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
