Relegation costs Spurs another player

Cape Town Spurs have lost another key player ahead of the 2025/2026 season due to their relegation to the amateur level.

Goalkeeper Neil Boshoff has expressed that he is actively searching for a new club to play for in both the Betway Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The team has already seen several players depart following their drop from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the ABC Motsepe League. Notable departures include Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi, who have both signed with Kaizer Chiefs.

The 29-year-old Boshoff, who has previously played for PSL clubs AmaZulu FC and Richards Bay FC, has no intention of returning to the amateur ranks.

"I'm still looking to see where I might end up. I hoped to stay in Cape Town, but I'm uncertain at the moment," Boshoff tells KickOff.

"I'm currently a free agent and exploring my options. My contract finished at the end of the season, but there was an option for renewal if the club got promoted.

"Spurs are still trying to regain their status in the NFD, so we'll see how that unfolds. However, I definitely want to play in the NFD or PSL," he added.

"I've been reaching out, but nothing concrete has materialized yet; it has only been discussions so far. I've been hoping that the club might buy a status, but there’s been no progress. I need to find a team to support my family.

"Of course, the relegation still hurts. We were playing some beautiful football, but we just couldn't get the results. It's unfortunate that we couldn't finish strong."
