Middendorp followed out of Spurs exit door

With their path to the amateur ranks of SA football having been cleared, Cape Town Spurs have now had to deal with the departure of a coach who served as Ernst Middendorp's right-hand man.

It's well-documented that Spurs will be campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League after finishing at the foot of the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Benson Mhlongo joined as assistant in March, replacing Vasili Manousakis, who had left to link up with Benni McCarthy in the Kenyan national team.

Middendorp has already secured a new position at the newly promoted Durban City FC, where he is serving as Technical Director.

In the meantime, the Urban Warriors have appointed Roger De Sa as Head Technical Director, and it is believed the well-travelled tactician will also assist in the coaching department.

Mhlongo, who holds a CAF C coaching license, will launch his new project - a sports panel discussion - in Alexandra on Friday. This show was inspired by his win in the Betway 12th Man Business Innovation Series in 2025, where he was awarded for his business pitch.

The event, titled the Sports Legend Live Show, will feature various sports experts discussing the revival of sports in local communities by addressing challenges and finding solutions.

According to a source, the former Orlando Pirates man last heard from Spurs on the day they were relegated and has not received any communication from the club since.
